A sufi’s ‘Khalwat’ is a place for inner retreat and solitude. It is bare and devoid of all distraction, a place that can enhance concentration and aid the Sufi along his spiritual journey.
My Khalwat is my studio, a place where I leave one world behind and enter another. It is a physical space where thoughts and ideas float like confetti and settle down. It is here that I understand what Marcus Aurelius meant when he said, “Nowhere can a mind find a quieter place or more untroubled retreat than in his own soul..”
